BIPOD is the first contemporary dance platform to be founded in Beirut in 2004, and recently has become one of the most important dance festivals in the region. It always offers a rich international program of performances, debates, lectures and workshops. The festival has also raised international curiosity about the dance scene in Beirut and has created a significant presence for dance in Lebanon. It opened the eyes of many influential figures in dance and promoted Beirut as the centre of Contemporary Dance in the Arab World.
Walk of Causes is a 14-episode-web series following two guys as they make their way across Lebanon, jumping from village to village, starting from the North, and working their way southward. Each day of this three week journey they walked for a new cause, and they invited the people they met on their way as well as the followers of their blog to come up with suggestions of what to walk for. Now, about a year and a half later, 14 episodes of five minutes are ready for distribution.
One of them is a self-taught percussionist who went on to take his playing to an international level. The other revealed his music passion at the early age of 11, when he started learning Oud at the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory. Beirut.com sat down for a quick chat with Edict Record Concert Series Performers Khoury / Yassine duo, a group comprised of Khaled Yassine and Elie Khoury. The duo is known to explores the possibilities of Oriental instrumental music with Yassine on percussion, and Khoury on Oud and Buzuk.
Once elected Artist of the Week on MTV World's "MTV Iggy", Slutterhouse has been described as “better than Justice and Daft Punk combined” [Premonition.fr]. Beirut.com sat down with the voice behind the electro-pop band, Rabih Salloum, to pick his brain. A philosophy major and music junkie (the one addiction we so very lovingly condone), Salloum’s passion for melody and philosophic approach often coincide in his posture and mannerism, even when he fervently denies relating the two in his songs.
