Mohammad Al-Amin Mosque

A mosque or masjid is a place of worship for followers of Islam. The Arabic word masjid literally means a place of prostration. The word “mosque” in English refers to all types of buildings dedicated for Islamic worship. The mosque serves as a place where Muslims can come together for salat (prayer) as well as a center for information, education, and dispute settlement. The Imam leads the prayer.

Located in Martyrs’ Square in downtown Beirut, this mosque was built between 2002 and 2007 by the former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and it was inaugurated by his son Saad Hariri on October 17, 2008.

According to the architect, Azmi Fakhuri, the blue-domed mosque has an Ottoman inspiration, copying the Sultan Ahmed Mosque in Istanbul.
