Dar Bistro & Books are proud to present a night with storyteller Abdelrahem Alawji

Seif Ben Di Yazen was a Yemeni king who lived between 516 and 574 AD. Born in Shabwah, Seif was famed for kicking out the Abyssinians from Yemen, leading to his reign as king.

Seif Ben Di Yazen became the hero of many popular stories because of his eventful life, one of the grandest and most-well known in his region. As for most legends, the repetition and transmission of the stories from generation to generation led to the confusion of myth with historical facts, resulting in such exaggeration that it was said that Seif was the son of a Gin Mother, part God, part Human.

Every Ramadan season, storytellers all around tell the story of Seif in all its mysteries and eccentricities.

On this special night, Alawji will be reciting for you a small, if not important part of Seif’s long life-story, that will include the journey of Seif to the Seven cursed Islands of Waq Waq, where he seeked to bring back his wife and son from evil, highlighting the dangers and mysteries Seif faced on his journey, most of which were unheard of before.

Let the story begin…
