Lara Scandar is an Egyptian singer. She was a semi-finalist on the Lebanese reality talent competition Star Academy during the 6th season, representing Egypt in 2009. Lara was born on the 18th of December in Los Angelos California,Her father is Egyptian/Italian and her mother is Lebanese. Lara was raised in Cairo, Egypt and attended the International School of Choueifat, Cairo. At the age of 4, Lara developed a passion for music and began to perform in talent shows and plays including The Sound of Music and The King and I. Her parents had enrolled her in ballet classes since the age of 3 and modeling classes at 5. Lara went on to modeling for many well-known magazines, fashion houses and cosmetics. She has also appeared in several commercials and advertisements since the age of 2. By the age of 11, Lara had begun to write her own songs and began recording demos as a hobby. During her senior year she was crowned Prom Queen. Lara has a younger sister, Tamara scandar. After her high school graduation at the age of 17, Lara auditioned for Star Academy; a Lebanese show that brings young Arabs from all over the world to live together and compete for the "Star" title. She was chosen out of many of those who auditioned to represent Egypt on Star Academy, which debuted in February 2009. Scandar was one of the three Egyptian candidates that season and the only female singer who sang in languages other than Arabic (English, French, Italian and Spanish). Lara received heavy criticism due to her weak Arabic and Western image because of the languages she sang and spoke in. She was also one of the youngest contestants that season. Regardless, she managed to be the last Egyptian in the competition and reach the semi-finals.

After her popularity in Star Academy 6, Scandar was approached by award winning Lebanese producer Jean-Marie Riachi who produced her first single "Mission Is You" which was released on February 3, 2010. Norwegian director Ray Kay directed the music video.
