BIPOD is the first contemporary dance platform to be founded in Beirut in 2004, and recently has become one of the most important dance festivals in the region. It always offers a rich international program of performances, debates, lectures and workshops.

BIPOD raised international curiosity about the dance scene in Bei- rut and had created a significant presence for dance in Lebanon. It opened the eyes of many influential figures in dance and promoted Beirut as the centre of Contemporary Dance in the Arab World. The immense progress that the Platform has shown between the years 2004 and 2008 has brought it into the foreground as ‘the place’ for the development and creation of contemporary dance in Beirut.

In four years, its audience was three times as much as that of the first edition in 2004. BIPOD has presented europe’s best contemporary dance companies such as Les Ballet C de La B (Belgium), Kafig (France), Folkwang 2010 Tanzstudio (Germa- ny), Cie Alias (Switzerland), Jo Stromgern (Norway), Helena Waldmann (Germany), Cobosmi- ca (Spain), Mancopy (Denmark), Kristina de Chatel (Netherland), Mal Pelo (Spain), Sasha Waltz ( Germany), Mathilde Monnier ( France), La Ribot ( Spain), Emio Greco|PC ( Italy)...

Every year more than eighty dancers and choreographers from Europe, Africa, Asia, Japan, South America, and the USA come to Beirut to participate in the festival.
