Umam’s the Hangar

The Hangar is an independent platform that facilitates debate and exchange through art and culture. It seeks to stimulate reflection on past individual and collective memories of Lebanon by promoting artistic and cultural practices related to the use of archives.

The Hangar in its very built form as well as mission is an extension of UMAM D&R’s efforts to come to terms with Lebanon’s war-torn past.

The Hangar’s artists-in-residence program, regular activities aimed at reaching the local, Dahiyeh community, and infrastructural facilities go to supporting research, cultural and multidisciplinary artistic endeavours in Lebanon, as well as to cultivating cultural life in Beirut’s southern suburbs.

The Hangar offers resources for artists (art production grants and residencies), neighbors (meeting point), and Lebanese citizens (an open cultural space to debate memories of Lebanon’s past)

Wednesday through Sunday 2pm to 8pm or by appointment.
