Falling and Rolling, Dance Workshop Given by Guy Nader

From May 18 to May 20, 2012
3:00pm -> 7:00pm
Maqamat Dance Theatre

This workshop is based on a physical and powerful floor work, entering and leaving the ground. We will be using movement patterns that involve breathing, speed and release of energy throughout the body to activate the relationship between the center and limbs and we will move out from the floor more efficiently by keeping a low and strong center. We will focus on the bone structure that will help improve the physical perception and awareness, exploring the main laws of physics: cohesion and expansion, elements from “flying low” technique. Within this range we will study various ways to roll in all directions “Falling and Rolling”, dropping and lifting smoothly and quickly.

The movement material is mainly based on floor work and low squats positions. We will start with exercises in which we will find ways to support the body on the floor with different parts and explore various movement possibilities, developing movement sequences in all levels‐up and on the floor and search balance changes. Although the arms are part of the dance, sometimes we will try to avoid contact with the hands on the floor to help us move, except when necessary. In this training we will do special exercises to prepare for this form of physically demanding movement.
