Shattered Sun Sculpture Exhibition

Organized by Beirut Exhibition Center (Solidere), “Shattered Sun” a sculpture exhibition by Anachar Basbous featuring 17 art pieces of metal and steel. will be open on Thursday 24th of May 2012 at 6 pm at Zeytouneh Square (Behind Starco building) in Beirut Central District.

The collection showcases the artist’s latest work and embodies the concept of volume exploitation. Anachar uses this technique in his sculptures, allowing them to look like they are moving from whatever angle they are viewed from. In this line, these originally static forms are transformed into dynamic sculptures, rather resembling to mechanical parts. What also distinguishes Anachar’s three-dimensional masterpieces, is their transformation according to the degree of light reflected on their shapes; while the shadows produced by sunlight, further boost their aesthetics.

To this end, the exhibit was held in an outdoor public square, allowing art lovers to fully enjoy the shapes under the sunlight. The exhibition was staged to make sculptures look like they are an integral part of the square. Anachar was inspired by Zeytouneh Square to create a floating sculpture to be placed in the water fountain at the center of the square.

This exhibit will be open until the 8th of July 2012.

Zeytouneh Square was inaugurated by Solidere in 2011. It is a public square designed by “Gustavson Porter” in cooperation with Imad Gemayel Firm, specialized in creating and landscaping public spaces. The design of Zeytouneh Square puts no boundaries to the plaza as its open ended. Black and white flagstones are used to create an intentional contradiction that reflects the richness of the site. The square hosts a multitude of water basins, and a stone bridge leading visitors to black and white strips. Every strip is a flat area that can hold various activities. The innovative lighting design at Zeytouneh adds a special beauty characteristic to the square which is equipped with stone seats.
