Joana Hadjithomas

Born in Beirut, Joana Hadjithomas often works together with Khalil Joreige as visual artists and filmmakers.

They have written and directed short films as “Ramad” (Ashes) in 2003 and “Open the Door” in 2006 as well as documentaries, such as “Khiam” in 2000, and “El film el mafkoud” (The lost film) in 2003 and in 2008 Khiam 2000-2007. They’ve also directed long fiction features : In 1999, “Al Bayt el zaher” (Around the pink house), then, in 2006 “A Perfect Day” Their last film is “Je veux voir” (I want to see) with Catherine Deneuve and Rabih Mroué premiered at “Un certain regard” at Cannes official selection 2008.

Their films have been shown in the most prestigious festivals where they have gathered numerous awards, and have been released theatrically in many countries.

They are currently working on a feature documentary film called “The Lebanese Rocket Society”.

Furthermore, they have created several photo and video installations that are shown in art centers, museums and galleries in group show as well as solo exhibitions. Their artwork is part of important private and public collections.

Joana teaches and contributes to several publications. She is a board member of Metropolis cinema and of the Home Work academy School of Ashkal Alwan.
