The 14th International LAU Theatre Festival

In honor of the 14th International LAU Theatre Festival, a play will be performed by a group of students from the Beirut Arab University titled, “He Who is Born is Stuck”.

Directed by:
Hasan Al Masri

Synopsis:
This is a black comedy that narrates the journey of an Arab person in general, and a Lebanese in particular, from cradle to grave.

A fast reel of diverse images from every stage that this person, defeated and besieged by all kinds of intellectual, familial, religious and ethical oppression, coupled with an exacting social legacy and the escalation of internal circumstances which add emotional stress and put strain on his upbringing and all matters related to his day-to-day life. It shows a tragic beginning and even more tragic ending of an Arab, oriental and Levantine person living in a thundering, continual decline. Living under laws and notions similar to a concrete wall, this person seems stuck in the middle. He has no power to return from where he came from, and has no capability to move forward at will. Thus the earnest expression he keeps repeating, “He who was born is stuck”.

The performance will take place at the Irwin Theatre on LAU’s campus.
