The 14th International LAU Theatre Festival will mark its closing performance with the play, “The Chairs.”
Directed by: Raneem Al Halaby
Synopsis
The play concerns two characters, known as Old Man and Old Woman, frantically preparing chairs for a series of invisible guests who are coming to hear an orator reveal the old man’s discovery, which is implied as being the meaning of life (it is never actually said). The guests supposedly include “everyone”, implying everyone in the world. In the play, these two characters talk about their life experiences. The invisible guests start arriving one after the other and finally the orator arrives. The orator is represented by a tree and rain. The two old people commit suicide because they have nothing to do anymore.
The performance will take place at the Gulbenkian Theatre at LAU.
