Why Would You Want to Go to War with this Place?

“If in fact the Iranians aren’t going to compromise… it would be best if somebody else started the war.” *Cue drumroll*

Ladies and gentlemen, meet Patrick Clawson, Director for Research at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. Check out Clawson’s diplomatic skill on youtube yourself, and feel the pain.

“And it’s very hard for me to see how the United States… uh … President can get us to war with Iran,” remarked Clawson, in an all too assured manner. So Iran might not like what the US says. Solution? Lets bomb them before they bomb us! Hurray! The “traditional way” – namely the stuff America would rather we didn’t remember – consists of the attack on Pearl Harbor, the sinking of the Lusitania, the Gulf of Tonkin incident, and the blowing up of the USS Maine. Stuff where presidents declared war…but for reasons.

Clawson’s reasons are obvious. Something about Israel and/or nuclear warfare and/or my-grass-is-greener-than-yours. I mean have you SEEN Tehran?
