Bellydancing Pride

We’re Arab. We dance.

We also gawk. But hey, when you’re dressed in a sheer belly dancing outfit, it’s kinda expected. As an Egyptian, I’m proud/in awe of the belly dancing culture, where in a conservative region half-clothed vibrating women suddenly become acceptable.

Just check out this old photo via @ranasalam, featuring a crowd full of oglers and one twirling belly dancer. And by the looks of things, I do believe it is a wedding.

With all eyes on the dancer, I can’t help but think…the poor bride.
