Biomechania at Beirut Art Center

Beirut Art Center has the pleasure to invite you to the opening of the BAC design exhibition “Biomechania” by Ranya Sarakbi.

“Biomechania”, which in modern Greek means industry, comes from the ancient words for life and machine, thus biomechanics: “the study of the structure and function of biological systems by means of the methods of mechanics.” The objects in this exhibit are crafted in metal. They are inspired from the exploration of the role of mechanics in biological systems, as well as the relationship between the sentient being and the environment.

The works on display are the result of an exploration of more complex totems and different fauna. Here, focus also shifts to industry, which gave method to the need for progress, and the biomechanics that offered insight to increasing the efficiency of humans’ work and improving the quality of life, pushing the limits of what was humanly possible.
