Spotted: Politicized Armenian Graffiti on Gemmayzeh Street

It is estimated that nearly 150,000 Armenians live in Lebanon, making up about 4% of the overall population. Thus it should come to so surprise that Armenian pride and nationalism are widespread in Lebanon, so much so that their message has become plastered on walls of the end of Gemmayzeh.

Spotted only this week, a new message reads “Eastern Turkey Occupied Armenia”, effectively stating that parts of Turkey do in fact belong to Armenia. And, historically speaking, much of Eastern Turkey was occupied by a large percentage of Armenians before 1915.

Lebanon is home to a variety of minorities from all over the Middle East, each of whom have their own campaigns and causes.
