Beirut Traffic Jams Since 1958

This picture, tweeted by @LebaneseProblem, is a testament to the fact that Beirut will forever be plagued with traffic.

Just when you thought the “Golden Age” of Beirut was perfect—BAM—a picture of a traffic jam is in your face. Which really makes you think, was it really all that better back in the day? Perhaps we adore the Golden Age for what it stands for—culture, class and the “Paris of the Middle East”—but we forget the lack of technical advancements, women’s rights (which are ever soooo slowly increasing) and every day comforts that we take for granted.

So maybe the Golden Age was awesome. But who’s to say our age isn’t awesome anyways?
