Lebanese Minister’s Convoy Attacked in Tripoli

Four people were wounded in an attack today on a Lebanese convoy escorting Minister of Sports and Youth, Faisal Karami.

Aljazeera.com reports that one of the convoy’s patrol cars was set ablaze and that the four people—Karami’s bodyguards—were not severely injured in the attack. Karami himself was unharmed.

Making international headlines, this attack draws attention the the increasingly tense situation in Tripoli, where attacks have become numerous and frequent. Speculation attributes much of this violence to the crisis in Syria, though Tripoli has long been home to often violent extremists.
