A Bus So Decrepit, It Might As Well Be A National Landmark

“Let me take you for a ride to nowhere…”

So says the caption on this picture, instagramed by najsaf, of a bus so decrepit and forgotten, it might as well become a fixed landmark for tourists.

Rusted and without wheels, the bus reflects an age that is long over in Lebanon. Twice as long as today’s public transportation, the bus could very well be from the 80s.

Now abandoned on a highway near Souk Al Ahad, the bus serves as nothing but a memory of the past. As a reflection of the depravity that has overcome Lebanon, in place of the peace that once was.

What an oddly representative microcosm of the country today. What an oddly contemplative thing for a broken bus to be.
