1. Carpacio Seabass
Though this salad isn't on the menu yet, the servers recommended it so much that we absolutely had to try it. And it is every inch as delightful as it looks. Served in the perfect portion size, the sea bass was a tender texture, flavored and marinated with the perfect amount of lemon.
Accentuated and enhanced by sprigs of parsley and rocca leaves, the Carpacio Seabass is the perfect tribute to the extreme of Italian cuisine we don't often see—that of refreshing lightness.
2. Insalata di granchio con patate novelle
I love crab. I'm a crab person. And truly fresh crab is hard to come by. So when you pair it in a salad with potatoes and vinaigrette dressing, well, the result is simply
Imagine a mound of crab, so tender that it is barely held together, perilously perched on a base of potatoes. Now imagine eating that. It's heaven.
3. Burrata alla Caprese
Burrata is fresh Italian style cheese, made from mozzarella and creme. Cavalli's Burrata is perfection, and melts in your mouth in seconds. Easily my favorite of the three salads—
which is saying something—the Burrata alla Caprese is a testament to what makes Italian dishes beyond compare—indeed, I've never appreciated cheese so much in my life.
Served with assorted tomatoes and dressed with basil pesto, if you have to order only one thing the whole evening, the Burrata alla Caprese is definitely it.
4. Bresaclo Pizza
No Italian dinner is complete without pizza.
That being said, though Cavalli's pizza is fantastic, it is not nearly an indication of just how varied their menu truly is. So your decision hedges on your definition of Italian cooking—if you're there for pizza and pasta, get the Bresaclo. If you're there to refine and expand your view of Italian food, save room for other dishes.
Now if you lie in the first category, know that this pizza is for meat lovers and won't be appreciated by all. Yet if you'd like an eclectic array of rocket, bresaclo, parmesan and white truffle oil (the truffle oil really makes the dish), then it looks like you've got your evening planned out already.
5. Lasagna Tradizionale
An amalgamation of pasta layers, bechamel sauce, bolognase sauce and parmesan, the Lasagna Tradizionale is a creamy concoction of cheese and starch, baked and served in just the right portion size.
Like most bechamel dishes, the lasagna is a heavy dish, so I recommend it (along with a salad) as a full meal. But you're not at an Italian restaurant to lose weight, so if you want to go a little crazy and order some more, buon appetito!
6. Tom Wolfe's pollo marinato al chipotle
A hearty main course that will leave you feeling healthy and satisfied, Tom Wolfe's chipotle chicken is an excellent choice for the white meat lover. A little on the spicy side—which I love—the chicken is cooked to a tender pink, and almost dissolves in your mouth upon impact.
Filling, delicate and completely finish-able, I totes recommend this dish as a main course—though if I were you I'd pair it with something a bit more traditionally Italian (such as their fabulous Bruschetta).
7. Nougat Glace
If there's one thing I learned from dining at Cavalli Cafe, it's to always leave room for another unexpected dish. I still regret not being able to finish the Nougat Glace; yet even with a bursting stomach I couldn't keep from indulging in this amazing dessert. A combination of nougat, ice cream and caramel and topped off with fresh rasberries, the Nougat Glace was the epitome of "oh-my-god-I-wish-I-had-more-room-in-my-stomach" and utter creaminess.
The perfect end to the perfect meal, the Nougat Glace leaves you with a sweet taste and appreciation for the finer things in life, because who really needs exercise anyways.
Bonus: Cavalli 40
So though this one's technically not a dish, I can't pass up the chance of recommending Cavalli's signature drink, the Cavalli 40. I mean, Italy is pretty well known for their alcohol, and this fruity concoction
does compliment one's meal pretty fantastically.
And since when have you ever needed a reason to drink?
This is Italian food, at its best.
Hand's down one of the most delicious and authentic Italian restaurants in Lebanon, Cavalli Cafe delivers on every level—with excellent food, brilliant service and lovely seating. Grab a zebra-print couch and snuggle a pillow while you gorge on exquisite cuisine, but make sure not to fall asleep from a food-induced coma—because chances are, you're going to die from gloriousness by the end of your night.
So dress classy and prepare your wallets; Cavalli Cafe isn't cheap. But don't worry, by the end of this night, you'll definitely feel you've gotten your money's worth. Just remember to order the salad.
