UN Reports A Total Of 1 Million Syrian Refugees

It’s been two years since the beginning of the Syrian uprising.

Since March 2011, thousands of Syrian refugees have been relocating to the nearby countries of Egypt, Turkey, Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon. The Daily Star reports that the UN has released an official statement, with U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, Antonio Guterres remarking: “With a million people in flight, millions more displaced internally, and thousands of people continuing to cross the border every day, Syria is spiraling towards full-scale disaster.”

Syrian refugees in Lebanon have visibly increased in number in the past few months alone, with many of them having to resort to menial jobs or even begging. Half of the refugees are children under 11 years of age.

The UN estimates that over 70,000 Syrians have been killed since 2011.
