Lebanese Women Call for National Mourning Day to Protest Lack of Rights

It’s International Women’s Day.

A global celebration of women is happening all over the world today, yet females in Lebanon remain oppressed and unappreciated, declared only as wives or daughters or mothers instead of individuals in their own right.

Protesting this notion, Lebanese women have called for an unofficial “day of mourning”, that will occur tomorrow, on March 9. A video, shown below, was created in accordance with tomorrow’s protest.

Roughly translated, it reads: “For equal rights for women, for a fairer electoral law, for having basic living standards…March 9, 2013… the world is going to turn black.”
