AUB Honey Day 2013

Thursday, May 9, 2013
11:00am -> 5:00pm
American University of Beirut (AUB)
Join AUB as it hosts the 2013 edition of the AUB Honey Day. The Day comes this year with mounting concerns about the human distortion of the ecosystem, an occurrence that has been reflected by the worldwide honeybee vanishing phenomenon, Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), which has remained more of a mystery up to date.

An international Urban beekeeping Initiative has been put into place as a means to counteract the disappearance of bees in relation to the present deforestation practices, and the FAFS (Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences) is the first to have launched such an initiative through placing live bees on campus to help preserve campus greenery.

The event includes the extraction and sale of freshly harvested AUB honey and other related products such as honey baked goods, bee pollen, royal jelly, this year’s printed t-shirts, caps, mugs, pens, gift baskets, etc.

All proceeds go for supporting the FAFS Honeybee Lab. The event is taking place at the FAFS entrance area.
