Anjar is located approximately 60 kilometers from Beirut and just a short distance from the Litani River. It is considered a historical site in Lebanon due to its extensive ruins dating back to the Umayyad area.
The city is believed to have been founded in the early 8th Century AD.
Anjar (from the Arabic “Ain Gerrah”) translates to mean “the source of Gerrah” in English. The name refers to an ancient pre-Hellenic city.
