The performance troupe behind Rock the Ballet announced on Tuesday it was cancelling its performance on Friday at the Beirut Souks fearing the security situation in the country.

The statement received by Beirut.com to announce the cancellation specifically referenced the kidnapping of two Turkish airline pilots on Airport Road August 9. The 'Rock the Ballet' dance troupe is from Australia.

According to the Daily Star newspaper, Turkish Airlines pilot Murat Akpinar and his co-pilot Murat Agca were snatched at gunpoint last Friday as the two were headed to their Beirut hotel from Rafik Hariri International Airport.

This isn't the first time a performer has cancelled a show in Lebanon this summer over the security situation. In June, Renee Fleming canceled her appearance as the headlining act in the Baalbeck International Festival, blaming "deteriorating security conditions."

Furthermore, festival organizers announced in late June that the famed concert series would relocate to la Magnanerie in Jdeideh because of safety concerns.
