Beirut in Pictures: Before and After

One of our readers, Hassan Krayem, had the chance to document Beirut’s entire reconstruction era from 1990 to 2001, and which continues to this day.

Among hundreds of images he took of Beirut streets and buildings, we found this series of photos he took at Al-Maarad Street, facing Al-Omari Mosque. It serves as a particularly poignant reflection on the development of downtown Beirut since the end of the civil war.
