The Islamic University of Lebanon is a Lebanese private institution of higher education licensed under Decree No. 8600 on June 12, 1996.
Imam Musa al-Sadr launched the idea for the school> it was then founded by the late Imam Sheikh Muhammad Mahdi Shams al-Din. Today it is run by Imam Sheikh Abdul Amir Qabalan, vice president of the Higher Islamic Shiite Council and Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
