Activists Protest Death Penalty in Lebanon

Around 30 activists gathered to protest capital punishment on Friday in front of the Justice Palace in Adlieh, marking the 11th World Day against the Death Penalty.

The demonstrators, all from the National Campaign to Abolish the Death Penalty, later entered the Justice Palace to hold a press conference.

The last executions to take place in Lebanon were in 2004. Three men were executed – one was hanged and two were killed by firing squad in Roumieh prison on January 17. There are currently 54 inmates on death row.
