Wine Tour With Vamos Todos

Saturday, Dec 21, 2013
7:30am -> 5:00pm

It’s winter, it’s holiday season, it’s wine season. Lebanon is among the oldest sites of wine production in the world. The Phoenicians were instrumental in spreading wine throughout the Mediterranean in ancient times. Despite the many conflicts of the region, Lebanon has an annual production of about 600,000 cases of wine. Recently, the sector has been witnessing an unprecedented growth. The number of wineries went from five in 1998 to over 30 in 2013.

On this wine tour, Vamos Todos will visit four important wineries. The first visit will be to Umami, where you will have a quick tour of the club, then get introduced to the proper method of wine tasting, guided by expert Hiba Salloum.

The second stop will be in Clos St. Thomas. Clos St Thomas has won four gold and
four silver medals at high profile international wine competitions. It is a family-run winery. You will visit it, learn about wine making and get to taste its exquisite wine.

The third stop will be in Domaine des Tourelles. Winner of many international awards, it is the second oldest winery in Lebanon, founded by Francois-Eugène Brun in 1868.

Lunch will be served at the Hotel Massabki in Chtaura. It is a four-star hotel with vast gardens. The last visit will be to Ksara. The name comes from Ksar (or fortress) because the current winery was the site of a fortress during the Crusader era. The winery is the oldest one in Lebanon, dating back to 1857. The natural caves and underground network (2 km) that lie directly under Chateau Ksara estate serve as the place’s wine cellar. There you will watch a documentary, visit the caves, and taste the wine.

Meeting Place: 7:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Sagesse School in Jdeideh, facing the public garden.

Price: 80,000 LL per person including transport, winery visits, insurance, lunch.
