FAMU Students Films Screening at the NDU International Student Film Festival

As part of the NDU International Student Film Festival, head to a special showcase of FAMU students films from the Czech Republic.

History of Dance
Director: Micheal Bohm
Running Time: 25 min
The main characters of this documentary film are Jana and Tomáš Böhm – former champions of a Czechoslovakian competition in Latin American dance between 1980 and 1984. During this period, their country was still a satellite of the Soviet Union. Their dance primacy allowed them to travel across Europe despite the political situation.

The Little Pieces of Freedom
Director: Matej Beran
Running Time: 19 min
A short documentary movie about a hardcore band called, “Remek.” The members of the band – Marek, Honza, Juraj and Simona – are ordinary people. The band is fun for them. And even it´s not a job for them, they invest lot of their free time into it. They do everything by themselves – from recording to printing their t-shirts. And although their music might sounds like aggressive noise, they are calm and nice vegans, who don´t smoke or drink alcohol. This film tries to refute a stereotyped thinking, that this music style is stupid, and shows how bands like this work, often with a lot of likeable awkwardness.

Didactica Magna: Against The Grain
Director: Tomas Hoffman Polensky
Running Time: 34 min
This portrait of experimental filmmaker and teacher Martin Dolensky takes a look at his teaching methods, his meetings with his student at FAMU, and at a park where they work with film or in his studio where he is cooking. He talks about his teaching methods, the school, and the students’ relationship to education and cinema.

468 Lilometers from Gandma
Director: Monika Midriakova
Running Time: 22 min
A short film about how to make a home. Monika is moving into a new apartment but and is confronted by a suspicious cat.

Prague My Love
Directors: Tomáš Pavlíček, Jakub Šmíd, Viktória Dzurenková, Markéta Černá
Running Time: 60 min
Four short stories, four young authors, one town. Fresh and original look at different quarters of Prague through the FAMU students’ eyes. Different genres, but connected by a theme of permanent searching.
