So You Wanna Be Lebanese?

A new non-profit initiative has launched in New York aiming to help Lebanese-Americans activate their Lebanese citizenship, free of charge.

For now, the initiative is focusing on emigrants located in the Northeast US (mainly New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania), but will expand nationally and potentially go global if it finds success in the initial stages.

The process is quite simple. Applicants are asked to submit as much information as they can, and the “I am Lebanese” team will help them through the entire process including document retrieval from Lebanon.

Currently, only 10 percent of Lebanese expats can pass on nationality to their children, vote, and enjoy the rights of a Lebanese citizen.
