Government Sends SMS Messages Warning of Alexa Storm

The Lebanese ministries of interior and communication sent out SMS messages on Tuesday morning to residents across Lebanon asking them to take precautionary measures ahead of the arrival of Alexa, a huge winter storm expected to touch down Tuesday night.

The message reads: “Citizens are advised to drive carefully during the expected storm, to follow the security forces’ advisories and to take precautionary measures to face the floods and snow. If you need help, call 112 for security forces or 125 for civil defense.”

Last Wednesday, The Lebanese University in Hadath, south Beirut, and the Beirut airport road flooded after a heavy rainfall, blocking traffic for hours on major roads.

Caretaker Transport and Public Works Minister Ghazi Aridi blamed caretaker Finance Minister Mohammad Safadi during a press conference he held on Monday, for last week’s floods saying that Safadi refused to okay the transport ministry’s funds to pressure Aridi to approve another one of Safadi’s illegal construction violation.
