The ephemeral or perishable nature of soap alluded most precisely to the unsustainability of the arrangements for the control over the West Bank and Gaza as delineated in the Oslo agreement maps. Mona Hatoum¹s choice of this medium enabled me over a decade (1994 - 2004) to reflec...t on the failed peace promises, the separation wall and the volatile, shifting and disintegrating country.
