The Youth the Economy and Social Justice in the Arab Region

The Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs cordially invites you to a lecture by Dr. Mary Kawar and Dr. Zafiris Tzannatos.

Dr. Mary Kawar is currently a Senior Employment Specialist at the International Labour Organization (ILO) at the Regional Office for Arab States in Beirut. For the past 15 years, Dr. Kawar worked in ILO’s headquarters in Geneva, focusing on issues related to employment policy, skills development, gender issues, and youth employment. She had previously served as advisor to the Jordanian Minister of Labor. Dr. Kawar has authored several research papers and training manuals on employment, youth, and gender. She holds a PhD in Development Studies from the London School of Economics.

Dr. Zafiris Tzannatos is currently a Senior International Consultant for Policy and Research based in Beirut. He has previously worked as a senior advisor for various organizations and governments, including the ILO, the World Bank, the European Union, ESCWA, UNDP, EUROSTAT and the governments of Lebanon and Abu Dhabi. He previously held the position of Chair of the Economics Department at AUB, and his publications include 14 books and 200 reports and papers in the areas of labor economics, poverty, inequality, discrimination, education and training, gender, social policy and development strategy.
