Occupy College Hall

Wednesday, Apr 2, 2014
3:00pm -> 6:00pm
American University of Beirut (AUB)

Following the BoT’s unresponsiveness and disregard of the demands of the student body, further escalation of the students’ actions is clearly a necessity.

Therefore AUB students will start a sit starting Wednesday, April 2 at 3:00 p.m. in front of college hall, during which students will set up tents and sleep for an undetermined period of time, in order to pressure the Dorman Administration to fulfill the following demands:

1. AUB should commit to revisit the financing, management and planning system
and find alternative solutions to cover the rising costs so that students are not the first target for cost increases.
2. Establishment of a contract for the new students that clearly projects the cost to be paid for their entire degree and not just the semester in which they enroll.
3. Increased Transparency:
a-Publication of the university budget showing detailed distribution of revenues
into expenditures
b-Publication of a detailed justification for the 37% increase of the AUB budget
since the implementation of the 15 credits policy showing where it was spent
4. Student Representation: the University Student Faculty Committee (USFC) should get a written note and justification from the administration prior to any decision that affects the students directly or indirectly. The USFC should be represented by the cabinet members in the Board of Trustees’ meeting where the voting on these decisions takes place.
