‘Mahalla’ Exhibit by Hala Dabaji at 392RMEIL393

In this exhibition, the work of Hala Dabaji is shown in its various forms. The words, objects and characters communicate with each other within the same body: the artist and the gallery. But both are not nailed into one place that is imaginary, cultural and geographic…they are free and mobile.

Hala Dabaji was born in 1981 in Beirut. She was raised in Ngaoundéré, Cameroon, during the Lebanese civil war. Currently living between Beirut and Paris, Hala is inhabited by different places. Her work focuses on ambivalence and hybridity, but also on laxity and lack of rigorousness. Sensitive to certain ‘anarcho-primitive’ values and slightly a techno-phobe, the artist prefers modest materials to sophisticated machines.

She holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from the “Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts”, and has exhibited in Lebanon, Italy, the United States and Africa.
