Nurse-In at Ministry of Public Health to Protect Breastfeeding

Ministry of Public Health

It’s been a year since reporting violations to the Ministry and almost exactly one year since many signed a petition on Change.org asking for the Ministry to enforce the law and stop formula producers from marketing their products. At the time, General Director Dr Walid Ammar, committed in writing to ensuring this would happen but few actions took place.

The result is that countless violations of Law 47/2008 still occur all over Lebanon (distribution of formula samples at hospitals and clinics, ads for bottles, teats and pacifiers everywhere, events sponsored by bottle producers, mothers being forbidden to breastfeed in their babies’ nursery, etc.).

The threat to breastfeeding is very big and real and thousands of Lebanese mums and babies are at risk.

For this reason, Lactica has decided to make a big campaign to clearly and publicly tell the Ministry of Public Health that it is their responsibility to implement law 47/2008 in ALL ways (not just to stop ads for formula for 0 to 3-year-olds, which has been achieved) and stop all violations.
