Sunday, Aug 31, 2014
7:30am -> 5:00pm

Tannourine Cedar reserve is a dense forest at an altitude around 1,500 to 2,000 m above sea level.

Tannourine Cedar Reserve was made a natural reserve in 1999. It is the largest and densest cedar forest in Lebanon. Eighty percent of the trees are cedars. The stunning mountainous landscape, with cedars seemingly defying gravity and growing on extremely vertical slopes, is impressive. You will also be able to see rare flowers particular to this high altitude terrain.

On the way back, you will visit two important landmarks.
1. An old hermitage, Mahbaset Deir Wata Houb, was built in 1707 from funds offered as gifts from Muslims and Christians alike. Initially, it was a school, and eventually was turned into a hermitage.
2- A Crusade church, more than 1,000-years-old, built with two altars. Underneath it, there are burial chambers and sarcophagi.
