Saturday, Sep 13, 2014
9:30pm -> 2:30am
Dawawine

In its ongoing series of live DJ events, Dawawine welcomes the celebrated duo of Ziad Nawfal and Fadi Tabbal.

Not content with being two of the most active players and movers in Beirut’s alternative music scene for the past decade, Ziad and Fadi have developed a steady DJ partnership over the years, taking in many musical styles and genres.

On the musical menu for the evening: indie rock, folk & alternative pop!

Ziad Nawfal is the founder of the ground-breaking Beirut-based independent label – Ruptured. He has spent the better part of the last 20 years exposing Lebanon and the world to the special local and regional independent music talent on his long-running radio show – Ruptures, on Radio Liban 96.2 FM. He started spinning music in local Beiruti bars at the tender age of 18, and has played in the capital’s most renowned venues, from Babylone and Zinc in the 1990’s, to Club Social and The Basement in the 2000’s. He is currently a resident DJ at Momo’s at the Souks and Radio Beirut.

One of the hardest-working men in Lebanese independent music, Fadi Tabbal established Tunefork Recording Studios in Beirut in 2006. Tabbal’s work as an engineer at Tunefork has secured its reputation as one of the most prominent studios in Beirut; the majority of the city’s alternative acts have passed through its doors. A specialist in sound conception and design, Tabbal has worked on a variety of projects, including sound installations for Lebanese art group The Feel Collective, and sound design for documentaries by various Lebanese filmmakers. Tabbal is also a full-time member of several Lebanese bands: folk-rock group The Incompetents, experimental rock quartet XEFM, and drone unit Under the Carpet. He collaborates frequently with folk singer Youmna Saba and punk band Scrambled Eggs, and is a guest player on albums by folk band Adonis, hip-hop crew Fareeq el Atrash, experimental duo Praed, folk singer Sandmoon.
