‘Theater as Politics Beyond Discourse’: A Zoukak Sidewalks Forum

The forum will include performances, workshops, talks and panel discussions with artists from Egypt, Syria, Italy, UK, France and Lebanon.

“Theatre as Politics Beyond Discourse” is a one-week forum engaging theater artists to reflect on pressing social and political issues. The forum aims to develop critical thinking around theater practice and its vital role in seizing and expressing political momentum without falling into the traps of political opportunism.

Theater today faces challenges as a result of the recent political changes in the region. The new paradigms emerging from current shifts in ethics and ideologies are confronted with those that constitute contemporary culture. This forum will also grant the opportunity to create new networks between citizens, artists, and thinkers in a period during which thought and responsibilities are being led by interest-based politics.
