On Alienation – A Talk by Mattin Artiach

Friday, Nov 7, 2014
2:00pm -> 4:00pm
American University of Beirut (AUB)

On Alienation is a performance in which abstract, theoretical ideas are explored in a concrete situation. As part of this talk, Mattin will present his theoretical research in conjunction with an account of the performance that happened on Thursday night.

Mattin Artiach is an artist from Bilbao (currently living in Stockholm) who works with noise and improvisation. His work seeks to address the social and economic structures of experimental sonic artistic production through live performance, recordings and writing. He is currently doing a PhD at the University of the Basque Country under the supervision of Ray Brassier and Josu Rekalde. He has edited with Anthony Iles the book, Noise & Capitalism. In 2012 CAC Brétigny and Tuamaturgia published, Unconsitituted Praxis, a book collecting Mattin´s writing plus interviews and reviews from performances that he has been part of. Both books are available online.

The talk is hosted by FAAH (Department of Fine Arts and Art History) and AHI (Art and Humanities Initiative)
