Under the patronage of the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Art Circle gallery is happy to invite you to an exhibition by José Barbarito and Simy Cadis.
José Barbarito’s paintings subsist in a mix of techniques; warmly coloured, they refer to a certain past, mixed with a nearby present and a timeless future, depicting a mixed atmosphere of landscapes, figures and wildlife. While his drawings, almost all monochrome, are markedly more intense in their pictorial materiality.
Simy Cadis deals insistently with the human figure. She works on the metaphor of the body and the object; and her painted chairs are “bodies” that can contain and receive. It is an allegory to the human figure that vacates and empties. When she create silhouettes, she doesn’t go into details; this disregard of the human gaze achieves bodily expressions with a mysterious power, generating reflections and uncertainty to the viewer who can then identify what is hidden in her work.
Both born in Venezuela, Simy Cadis and José Barbarito present us here each his own distinct body of work.
Please Note: The gallery closes daily from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
