European Science Fiction in Lebanon

Metropolis Empire Sofil

Genre films come in multiple categories that require adequate time and patience to be explored, as they should. European cinema, in particular, has offered, throughout history, some of the most impressive and carefully executed science-fiction films, long before the reign of computer-generated images and visual effects.

Within the framework of the 21st edition of the European Film Festival in Lebanon, the Metropolis Association, in partnership with the cultural institutes of the European Union Member States, presents a selection of classic European science fiction films, most in their restored versions.

You will be intrigued by their advanced concepts of space, their visions of the perfect world and the new forms of future life they dreamed about… hop in, the ship is about to launch.

About the Movie
Adam and Alex are two scientists stationed deep beneath the barren surface of Saturn’s third moon, Titan. They live together in idyllic isolation in a space-age Eden, seeking new forms of food for an exhausted planet Earth. Their perfect world is interrupted when Benson arrives as Saturn goes into eclipse and cuts off communication with the rest of the solar system. Aided by his ‘helper robot’ Hector, James reduces life to one single purpose…survival.
