Radio Beirut is pleased to welcome Bassam Saba of the New York Arabic Orchestra to Radio Beirut feat. April Centrone on percussion.

Bassam Saba, hailing originally from Tripoli, is a world-renowned virtuoso of the nay and leading figure of Arabic music education. Saba studied nay, ‘ud and violin at the Lebanon National Conservatory. He received his BA in Western Classical music and Flute Performance at the Conservatoire Municipal des Gobelins in Paris and Masters in Western Flute Performance and Music Education from the Gnessin Musical Pedagogical Institute in Moscow.

Saba has toured extensively as principle nay and flutist with Fairouz, Marcel Khalife, Simon Shaheen and Ziad Rahbani. He has collaborated with classical and pop stars such as Yo-Yo Ma, Sting, Alicia Keys and Santana, and jazz icons Herbie Hancock and Quincy Jones, among others. Saba co-founded and directs the New York Arabic Orchestra, not-for-profit organization pioneering Arabic music performance and education in Northeastern America. Saba has performed as soloist for orchestras such as the Hannover Philharmonic, Qatar Philharmonic, Zurich Orchestra and East Oakland Bay Symphony.
