Seven Struggles of Being the Honest Friend

As John Lennon once said, “Being honest might not get you a lot of friends, but it will always get you the right ones.”

The truth can be ugly, and being the honest friend is no walk in the park, but somebody’s gotta do it, right? If you’re real with your friends, you’ve faced these struggles:

1. When you tell your friend about a cheating spouse or significant other, they automatically assume you’re just jealous.

2. You always have to be the bearer of bad news because everyone else in your group of friends is too scared. It gets to the point where your guy friends ask you to help them breakup with their girlfriends.

3. You don’t have many friends because people prefer that you sugarcoat everything and save them the tears.

4. You’re known as “the honest person,” so everyone comes to you whenever he or she needs an opinion. But this usually only happens once because after you tell them those jeans actually DO make them look fat, you’ll never see or hear from them again.

5. You end up hurting people’s feelings way too often, even when you don’t really mean to. It’s not my fault your clothes don’t match.

6. When being introduced to new acquaintances, your friends have to warn people about the next thing that might come out of your mouth.

I’m not a walking disease, but ok…

7. If you don’t find something funny, you don’t act like it’s funny. No fake laughs, giggles, or high-fives.
