‘Asil Ensemble’ at IRTIJAL ’15 International Festival of Experimental Music in Lebanon

Founded in 2000, Irtijal is presently the oldest music festival of the city of Beirut, and one of the longest standing international festivals of post-war Lebanon. Irtijal is organized by MILL, a non-profit association founded in 2000 by musicians Mazen Kerbaj and Sharif Sehnaoui, with the intent of promoting contemporary and experimental practices in music, and assisting projects that do not fit within the Lebanese mainstream, yet still present undeniable artistic value.

Founded in 2003 by the Egyptian musician and musicologist Mustafa Said, Asil Ensemble is a group of gifted musicians who have gathered for the purpose of performing a new contemporary form of Arabic music, based on the principle of internal development, and the reworking of preexisting traditional templates. The Ensemble has participated in several music festivals around the world, most notably the Fez Festival of Sufi Culture in 2011, the Azerbaijan Festival in 2009, and the Paul Klee Festival in Switzerland, in 2009.
