‘Mounir Troudi and Abdullah Miniawy Project’ at IRTIJAL ’15 International Festival of Experimental Music in Lebanon

Founded in 2000, Irtijal is presently the oldest music festival of the city of Beirut, and one of the longest standing international festivals of post-war Lebanon. Irtijal is organized by MILL, a non-profit association founded in 2000 by musicians Mazen Kerbaj and Sharif Sehnaoui, with the intent of promoting contemporary and experimental practices in music, and assisting projects that do not fit within the Lebanese mainstream, yet still present undeniable artistic value.

Born in 1960, Mounir Troudi is a jazz musician and Sufi singer from Tunisia. Considered nowadays as the first and foremost ambassador of Tunisia’s rich musical heritage. Troudi grew up in El Kef, and received a diploma in Arab music in 1998. He made his debut in 1994 in renowned playwright Fadhel Jaziri’s “Hadhra”, and subsequently contributed to Samir Aguerbi and Bechir Drissi’s show “Safaa”. In the early 2000s he formed the ensemble Nagouz, consisting of 42 musicians from Tunisia and the rest of the world, including French trumpet player Erik Truffaz, with whom Troudi has recorded several albums. “Nagouz” was presented at the Carthage Festival in 2014, among others.

Abdullah Miniawy is a writer, composer and musician from Madinet El-Fayoum in Egypt. He often performs in Cairo and Alexandria, and has collaborated with several Egyptian musicians including Ali Talibab and Telepoetic. In 2013, he was featured on the compilation “Khat Thaleth”, which presented tracks by hip-hop, electronic andjazz musicians from various parts of the Arab world. Miniawy has taken part in many international music festivals, including “Mousiqa wel Salam” in Tunisia, “La Voix est Libre / Jazz Nomades” in France, as well as D-Caf and “Ecrire la Méditerranée” in Egypt.

Erwan Keravec is a Breton bagpipe player with an eclectic background. Equally at ease in traditional Breton music and in improvisation, he has also worked in contemporary theater. Thirsty for new experiences, he seeks to open the bagpipe onto new directions, often collaborating with renowned musicians from the world of contemporary music.
