‘Walls of Memory’ Exhibition

Mark Hachem Gallery is proud to present the solo exhibition, “Walls of Memory” by artist Shadi Abousada.

A ladder, a pair of stockings, a red sock… Such objects inhibit the graffiti walls of Shadi Abousada. Sucked into their environment, the silhouettes seem to detach from their surroundings, leaving their shadows behind. Shadows are the artist’s favorite area of research, for he sees the nihilistic side of every human being. As such the shadow acts as a refuge, it also represents danger.

For his latest exhibition, the artist commemorates walls and treats his characters in a lighter and more colourful manner, all while respecting human pain and suffering. The wall becomes the platform for expression: caves of urban graffiti, at times witnessing children’s play, at others mirroring scenes from the streets. The wall covered by laminated newspapers remains the redline of Shadi Abousada’s canvases. We could see the actual pain that is recurrent and a preview of humanity that is being destroyed.

Born in Syria, Sweida City in 1983, Shadi Abousada currently lives in Beirut.
