Zoukak Theatre presents: “My Limping Granny.”

It tells the story of eight children of this limping grandmother who inherited the curse of the never-ending story. She is the archive-master of stories and the curser of ancestry. She unveils the lying prophets, refuses their Heavens and curses their times, the times of boats filled to death and crowds of children disguised in military costumes.

She is the one who told her many sons that land is a concept, for they don’t own the land, and that the concept does not die if they really possess it. She is the one who incited her grandchildren to seek freedom and turned on them because they forgot that freedom is the ultimate goal. When the dreams of individuals end, actuality triumphs. They return to where they started off, to the smallest spaces for action and the most beautiful ones. They return to any familiar alley. They think they are lucky, for they are still alive. They think they are defeated, for the dream has become a myth and the prophecy was ratified. They discover a new dream, and prepare themselves to create a decent ending to their story that did not end; their story that they always have to tell from the start.

“My Limping Granny” is a theatre performance resulting from a workshop (of 15 sessions) with eight participants from inside and outside the Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon. The workshop was organized and directed by Zoukak and supported by the A M Qattan Foundation’s project “Selat: Links Through the Arts” 2015, funded by the Prince Claus Fund for Arts & Culture.
