The Dopamine Series: Escape Through Mind Exploration

A new show of work by Lebanese artist Adlita Stephan opens at Galerie Janine Rubeiz, Beirut. Entitled, The Dopamine Series: Escape Through Mind Exploration, and featuring Stephan’s works on paper and mixed media on wood. The Beirut-based artist holds a master’s degree in fine arts from the Lebanese University and works on paper and mixed media on wood.

Her work has previously been showcased in Beirut and Montreal; Salon d’Automne de Montréal, Saibam (2001), Salon d’Automne-Sursock Museum at the Beirut Exhibition centre (2010 2012), Visual Arts Forum UNESCO (2012) and the Beirut Art Fair. Stephan also has shown at Galerie Janine Rubeiz when her work was part of a group show Clin d’oeil 2014.

Of her work she says, “With time, the gesture of applying, overlapping and repeating the tracing of lines reached its full significance and completion: This series is the means to lose the consciousness of existence. To plunge into my mind and detach myself from surroundings. From reality.

“Inner submersion, I would call it. There is nothing else behind it, as simple as it seems. Spirals, clouds of dots, numbers, lines, letters or squares pile up and overlap. There is me and the blank surface that I fill, that I weave with scrupulous miniscule forms until it becomes my loophole. A replication of my “dream like inner life”.
