Minwal – A Tribute to Mahmoud Darwish

Sunday, Aug 9, 2015
8:00pm -> 9:30pm
Maarouf Saad Cultural Center

The Minwal Theatre Company will be holding a tribute concert for Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish at the Maarouf Saad Cultural Center in Saida.

Minwal has – since its establishment – considered the Arabic language as part and parcel of the identity and an integral element in our theatrical work which stems from the likes of Darwish, whom has written poetry that is rich in both tradition and politics as well as taking decisive action through verses of shear linguistic beauty. Consequently – and as a celebration of the poet and his writings – the tribute will be host to theatre, poetry and music.

The ceremony will feature a variety of artistic interventions, talks and discussions that all aim to revive the spirit of Darwish. Mainly, the ceremony will be host to the following:

– A video installation that welcomes visitors into the space, as well as a short theatre.
– Presentation of Darwish’s texts by MINWAL Theatre Company.
– A musical encounter of Darwish’s poetry with Amal Kaawash and Rabih Salameh.
– Speeches by a number of artists and cultural practitioners: the poet Chawki Bzeih, the artist Marcel Khalifé, the author and journalist Saqr Abu Fakher and Mahmoud Srouji, the ceremony presenter who hosted the poet several times in Saida between 1970-80.
